14 Powerful Tips for Marketing on Facebook

Finding a good place to showcase your products, services and websites for free in the online world is a dream for everyone – Facebook has made this a reality. With half a billion Facebook users and thousands of online communities to choose from, Facebook has brought potential customers much closer to you.

It’s no big secret that Facebook can help you in online marketing. However, I know there are many of you who believe that just registering on Facebook is enough… it’s not. Your Facebook success story ends before it even begins!

There is much more to marketing on Facebook than just creating a profile.  Keeping your fans engaged is the key. Don’t be a brand, but be a community they love being a part of. In this article, I’m going to tell you how you can use the medium of Facebook to increase your customer base as well as retain the ones you have!

CREATE YOUR PRESENCE ON FACEBOOK

1.   Facebook Profile: By creating a profile for yourself or your business, you are establishing your identity. This will take you a long way in developing relationships with fellow users and in positioning your business. You profile lets you interact with people on a personal note, more so if it’s a local business. Here are some aspects of a profile page:

Profile Picture: Always put your best foot forward, which means use the most flattering picture as your profile picture.  No matter what they say, a book is judged by its cover. I came across M.A.C makeup’s profile and thought it was really catchy with the colors used on the face. Hundreds of indifferent people with little time to spare are going to decide whether to add you based on your picture. So, make sure you get this one right!

Add Friends: After creating a profile, don’t wait for things to happen. Add new friends every day and the word will spread that you’re on Facebook. Before you know it, you’ll be starting your day by accepting friend requests! However, make sure you don’t add more than 25 – 30 people a day as excessive adding can get your profile removed from Facebook.

Wall: This is your main platform to interact with Facebook users. Post messages on your wall and also comment on members’ activities, though, only when relevant. A cafe once commented on my status when it was something about food. And there! A personal connection was built in a second! I knew that I was going to visit this place more often. However, make sure you don’t spam people every other day or they may remove you from their friend list.

Photo Albums and Videos: Photos and videos are a great way to showcase the latest collection of your product. I know many people who love to see what goes on behind the scene during a photo shoot or while a baker does his magic in the kitchen. Moreover, the first thing most Facebook users check are photo updates. So take that camera and start shooting!

2.   Fan Pages: Facebook Pages, known as Fan Pages, are designed for businesses, brands, companies, products and celebrities. It enables public figures, organizations and other entities to create an authentic and public presence on Facebook. You can encourage users to become fans of your page and share information with them by uploading pictures, videos, status updates, hosting discussions and displaying wall posts. Unlike Facebook Profiles, Pages are visible to everyone on the internet and are generally better for long-term relationships with your fans, readers or customers.

3.   Groups: Facebook Groups allow people to come together around a common cause or activity to express their views. One of the best features of groups is the ability to send messages directly to members’ Facebook inboxes.  It’s a great way to form a community and help your brand image.
Nowadays, it’s almost a necessity for movies to establish their presence on Facebook during its post-release period as Facebook users look for movies here. The good thing here is that you can send bulk invites to your friends, while it is manually done on Pages.  Groups are generally better for hosting quick active discussions and attracting attention.

4.   Events: Simply put, Facebook Events can help you connect with your target audience and invite them for your events, even if they aren’t on your friend list or one of your fans. Events can be created individually or even from Profiles, Pages. What I like is that Facebook gives you a choice between making the event Public and Private.
Let me explain the difference. I got an invite from Alanis Morissette Unplugged Acoustic Performance for a show next month, though I’m not a ‘friend’ or a ‘fan’. This is an open invitation for a public event where anyone can access the page and RSVP to it. However, if you want to maintain an exclusive guest list, choose the ‘Private’ option and the event page won’t be visible to anyone except those you choose. If you’re planning a launch or celebrating a landmark event, the ‘Private’ option lets you selectively invite people and give details on a page that can’t be accessed by anyone else.

The Next Step: HOW TO USE FACEBOOK FOR ONLINE MARKETING

Social Media Marketing is still in its infancy. I consider this as an advantage because there are not many set rules, you can try & experiment with different methods & techniques. However, if you don’t want to experiment, here are some tried and tested methods that will ensure success:

5.   Be Unique and Keep Updating: There’s nothing more boring than bland Facebook pages. Add lots of personality and fun to your profile. If possible, try to create applications just for your page. Offer something different so that they keep coming back, instead of letting them wait for updates from you. If you check Dell’s Facebook page, you’ll see that it keeps updating its status and gives new information on their products and about technology.

6.  Use a Big Profile Picture: Who says size doesn’t matter? Using a big profile picture is one of the best ways to brand your Facebook page. Facebook allows images of up to 200pix wide x 600pix high to be used as profile images Pages. This way, you stand out in a crowd.  Check out Bob Marley or Johnny Depp’s page on Facebook and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

7.   Tag Fans in Photos:
You can tag your fans in pictures of new collections, or even ask them to tag themselves as a part of a game or contest. Musician Lenny Kravitz uploaded pictures of his concert in Italy in 2009 and asked everyone to tag themselves. This gave him good publicity as the update on being tagged appeared on the fans’ walls.

8.   Exclusive Landing Page for Users:
Use different pages to target different sets of people. Take new users to a page that encourages them to ‘Like’ you or to a page they would find interesting enough to keep coming back. Members/fans can be directed to the wall or a game page that might interest them. Red Bull’s profile page is designed in a way that users are given a hint to ‘Like’ the page, while fans are taken directly to the Wall. You can get innovative in designing landing pages and targeting different people.

9.   Reward Loyal Supporters: Encourage loyal supporters to join your Page and reward them. Tabs or badges like ‘member of the month’ that can be placed on their profiles for visibility can be awarded to them. A happy customer on Facebook can get you lots of attention.  Remind users to Like and Share information about you. When their friends see the updates on the News Feed, it’s highly likely for them to do the same.

10.   Use Contests and Polls:
Holding contests encourage fans to interact directly with you. Domino’s ‘Show Us Your Pizza’ is a contest where people can send pictures of Domino’s pizzas they’ve orders. The best picture will be chosen by Domino’s and the photographer gets a prize of $500 and a chance to get his picture featured in an ad. This has received a lot of attention from Facebook users.

11.   Actively Participate Outside Your Page: Find other Facebook pages related to your industry or topic using Facebook Search & start actively commenting on their posts & updates. This is a great way to build relationships in your industry and even adds credibility to your business. If you’re willing to offer free advice on communities and discussions, it will encourage people to check your website out.

12.   Integrate Facebook Social Plugins to Your Site:
When I go to CNN’s website, I can see what stories my friends have ‘Liked’, or what movies my friends ‘Recommend’ on IMDB. The Like button on your site enables users to share pages from your site back to their Facebook profile and the Recommendation button gives users of your site personalized suggestions for pages that they like. There are many more buttons like LikeBox, Comments, Live Stream etc that you can add to your website. With this, you can see for yourself what your target likes and design your product/service accordingly.

You can also integrate Facebook Connect Plugin in your blog which will enable Facebook users to leave comments on your blog without registering. The comment they make will be put up on their wall instantly which will be visible to all their friends. So, you effectively get a lot of exposure without doing much!

13.   Marketplace: With Facebook Marketplace, you can buy and sell anything using the listing service. The Marketplace application page displays all the most recent listings in your networks. The difference between normal listings and the Marketplace is that you don’t see another boring list of business, but they show up as the site’s own updates. For example, a sales listing would show up in news feeds as “John is selling Abstract Art.” In this case, John can be a ‘friend’ of your or even a friend’s friend. You can find out what people want, what they are offering and also how you are connected to these people on Facebook. This is what the page looks like:

14.   Don’t Just Write for an Audience of Teenagers: It’s time we free ourselves of this misconception. Facebook isn’t filled with youngsters. Though Facebook has many youngsters who belong to the age group 16 to 25, we see an increase in the number of people from other age groups who use Facebook regularly. According to Pingdom, 61% of Facebook users are over 35 years old. In fact, the 26 – 34 age group rivals the 18 – 25 age group in both the US and the UK. So, make sure communicate to your target the right way.

Supplement Your Income As A Network Marketer

Many people have to take a second job in order to meet their daily needs. They may not be able to obtain another outside job since the business may not be hiring or they may not have the experience needed. Working from home as a network marketer will allow you to supplement your income. In order to work as a network marketer, you will need to join a reputable network marketing company. You can locate network marketing companies by conducting an Internet search for the top companies. Click on several links until you find the right company. The company that you choose should offer products that you know will sell.

Make sure that you can go to a Web page instead of seeing a short description of a company. The page should have their contact information listed just in case you want to contact them. Find out how long the network marketing has been in business. They should have been in business for at least five years. When you are ready to take the next step, join the company. Read the information thoroughly before jumping right in and promoting. Start promoting your products by posting the page that they have given you at sites that allow you to promote.

You may not get a sale instantly, but the information that you received should give you an idea on how to go about promoting your page and making a sale. If after a week, you are having a hard time making a sale, contact your team leader, so he or she can help you. He will make sure that you are at his level in sales. When it comes to how long you should promote your page, treat it like a part time job. You can promote your page for four hours or even eight hours.

Figure out how much money you will need to make each week. Decide on how many sales are needed to obtain your goal. Once you have met your weekly goal, you do not have to work anymore for that week, unless you want to. If you feel like you do not want to work for a few days, you can take off without being penalized.

Building Your Network Marketing Connections

One of the biggest examples of network marketing is those in the direct selling business. Building this business is all about their connections and the network they already have built up. You can really make a great career out of this industry if you take the time to learn the business and also have the right tools.

One of the tools you can use is the training program with the company. This helps you to understand all the companies policies and procedures so that when you come across an instance with a  customer you are confident and know what to do. Make sure that whichever company you choose that they have a sound training program. This is one reason to stay away from newer businesses that don’t have that program started up yet. While you can be on the ground floor of a new business sometimes it is better to wait and let the company get started before buying in.

Another great way to build your connections is with social sites. Create a page for your business and help to promote what you do while building connections with new customers. You want to build relationships with new potential customers while maintaining the relationships with the old. Building these relationships is critical to the success of your business.

You can also start a blog or website to share information about your business and also tips on the industry you are in. It is nice for your customers to be able to not only see your advertisement but for them to get real content from your site. This helps to build their confidence in you that you are knowledgeable about the product or service you are selling.

Remember to find proper training and companies that will help you through the beginning. Be sure that you research all your options before settling on one company as you want to find a perfect fit for you. Build on your network marketing connections you already have and grow others. Be patient as this takes dedication, patience and hard work to truly see the benefits and profits in the end.

While many have succeeded in network marketing industries, many others have failed at their trials. There are many reasons that this has happened but by using a few of these ideas you can have success when you put your mind to it. Understanding how it works and what the best way to go about it is will help you to be in the successful category and not in the latter.

The basic idea is that you become a sales representative for a company to sell their products and services. Do you have time to devote to working this business? These are just a few things you need to keep in mind when considering this method of income. You must remember that this is truly a business and not a get rich over night idea. You must be willing to work it and treat it as such.

Many who are successful devote hours daily to working their business and getting it to where it is today. By understanding this up front it will prevent you from being frustrated and stressed later on in the process.

Network Marketing for College Students

Many college students have hard time getting the extra money that they need to pay for books and personal expenses. There parents may not be able to send them money, so they have to locate a part-time job while attending school. Many businesses do not like to hire college students since they prefer to hire full-time staff. A college student can earn some money while attending school by getting into network marketing. The student should have a personal laptop computer, so that they can work anytime of the day or night.

Locate a network marketing company by visiting a home business forum that offers a network marketing folder. Search the folder for a list of network marketing companies that you can join. If links are provided, click on each link to see what the network marketing company is all about. Before choosing a network marketing company to join, ask other members in the forum about the company. The other members may have done business with the network marketing company and can provide any positive or negative feedback.

Join the network marketing company of your choice and create a free blog. Post banners and pictures of the products on your blog. Write product reviews on different products to let potential customers know how a product is before they make a purchase. Some network marketing companies will send you samples of their products. It will be helpful to try out the product before writing a review since you can provide an honest review about the product.

Promote your blog on social networking sites that you visit. Read the sites policy on self-promoting before posting your blog. Whenever you make a comment on a friend’s page, just post a link underneath your comment. Their friends will see the link and may become curious and click on the link. Place a short description underneath the link to let potential customers know about the product that you are selling. It should include the benefits and any specials that may be going on.

While you are in class, you may be able to gain sales. You do not need to be on your laptop all of the time to make a sale. Since your blog will reach a large audience, anyone can make a purchase. You may even be able to get customers from your class.

An individual can become a network marketer working part-time. If you already have a steady job, you can work three to four hours at night by promoting your product. Visit forums and social networking sites that allow you to self promote. Try to make at least one sale a night. If you’re not making a sale, you can get into contact with the leader on your team. If you have a certain amount of money you want to make a month, you will need to calculate how many sales you will need. The money will more than likely be deposited into your bank or PayPal account. Need More Network Marketing Leads? Here You Go…

Ok… So you’ve joined a network marketing company with all the hopes and dreams of being successful but you quickly realized in order to be successful you need Network Marketing Leads.

This is the common problem that plagues the network marketing industry and most of the time your chosen company most likely lacks support in this department.

Most of the time when it comes to generating network marketing leads for your business you’re told to do things like: make a list of your friends and family, make a list of their friends and family, approach strangers in the street that look business orientated, put flyers all over town, buy leads, etc.

While these strategies have worked for many people in the past and still do to this day, it just doesn’t work for everyone and the reason is because not everyone has a large social circle or social influence for that matter.

For instance: A quiet guy with few friends and family who works at Mac Donald’s is not going to have the same success with these strategies as opposed to a successful doctor who has many clients, friends, family, etc and has more influence in his social circle.

So that basically means if the quiet guy with little to no influence and minimal social circle wants to enter into the network marketing industry he would have the odds stacked against him if he followed these generic strategies for generating network marketing leads.

This is why I believe generating network marketing leads online is a very important piece to building a successful business in this industry.

Ok so that’s all good and well, but how do you use the internet to generate leads for your business?

Here are Some Free Strategies for Generating Unlimited Network Marketing Leads

Strategy 1 –  Facebook Marketing

There is no secret that Facebook is a monster, every man and his dog is on facebook but more importantly your target prospects are hanging out there.

Here is a simple 7 step process to start generating leads with facebook:

1 – Create & login to Facebook account.

2 – Locate groups related to your niche. (I.E. Network Marketing/MLM)

3 – Add 10+ friends per day from the groups.

4 – Spend an hour a day chatting with your new friends on facebook chat.

5 – After initial chat, ask friend about Network Marketing, no pitch, just friendly chatting.

6 – Go in for the next chat, ask friend if he/she wants to see something cool. If they say yes (most of the time they do) send them to your opt in page and tell them to fill out the form. Say that the cool video, article, or whatever is on the next page.

7 – Repeat process

Strategy 2 – SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Most people hear the words search engine optimization and run for the internet hills because for some reason they are fooled into thinking that SEO is hard to do well it’s not, it’s a science just like any other form of marketing you just need to learn the formula to follow and you will see results.

So what is SEO and why should you do it to generate network marketing leads?

Well I believe that SEO is the best form of FREE marketing out there because by applying SEO to your marketing you can target a specific niche and drive an unlimited amount of highly targeted traffic for free.

So basically SEO is the process of creating a piece of content based around a specific keyword that people are searching for in the search engines, once you’ve created the content your goal is to get that piece of content on the first page of google for your target keyword.

Here is the simple 3 step SEO process:

1 – Keyword Research

You can use the google keyword tool to do some research and find out what people are typing into google which basically allows you to define your exact target market so you can create content specifically for that keyword, which brings us to step 2.

2 – Create Content

Content can be in the form of articles, videos, blog posts, other web 2.0 sites where you can upload content and make mini-sites, etc, but the important part about creating content is that it needs to be optimized for the keyword you’re targeting. Check out this post for more details about this.

When it comes to easily ranking in the search engines you need to put your content on sites that have a high page rank, page rank basically means how much authority that site has in googles eyes, the more authority the easier you will rank.

So you want to post your optimized content on sites like: Ezinearticles, Youtube, Facebook, Hubpages, Squidoo, Gather, Linkin, Weebly, etc.

3 – Build Backlinks

Once you’ve created and posted your optimized content onto a high PR site it’s time to build some back links, so what is a backlink and how does it help your rankings?

A backlink is a link on another site that is linking back to your site and the high page rank rule applies here to, the more high PR sites that you have links on that are linking back to your site the easier you will get on the first page.

Google class backlinks like “votes” the more votes you have, even better still the more high PR votes you have the higher the chance google will place your content on the first page for the keyword you’re targeting.

There you have it, 2 powerful strategies that you can implement for free and generate free Network marketing leads for your business.

The great thing about marketing online is that anyone can do it you just have to be hungry and willing to put the work in to see the results.

The 2 Fastest Ways To Start Making A Profit Within Your First 30 Days In Network Marketing

So you’ve joined your first network marketing company, your excited and your ready to build the business that will set you free.

At this point, you need to really consider exactly what you need to do in the first 30 days to turn a profit.

In our industry (Network Marketing) there are 2 basic ways to generate your income. They include:

1. Retail

2. Recruiting

Now I know that there are several steps to each process, I want you to focus on what you need to know to actually turn a profit in the first 30 days of building your new network marketing business. Let’s start with Retail…

When you went to your first company meeting, or was exposed to the business opportunity, there was something that obviously attracted you and turned you into a believer of what the company has to offer. network marketing

Now, it could have been the compensation plan, the products or even the group of people that you were being exposed to. But no matter what it was, you felt as though you had found something that you could share with others to help impact their lives just like it had impacted you. network marketing

When it comes to marketing your products or finding new prospective customers, you have to understand that your belief in your company/products, your enthusiasm, and what I personally like to call you “success mindset” are critical elements. However, there are a few other things that you absolutely MUST consider before you run around trying to spread the word about your company to everyone you come in contact with, which are: network marketing

A. Who is your target market?

B. What kind of problems can your product solve?

C. Why do they want it?

D. Why should you be the one they buy it from?

No matter how convinced you are about the benefits of your companies opportunity or products and how everyone would benefit from them, you still need to keep in mind the needs of your prospective buyers and how whatever you are offering will change their lives and solve their problems. network marketing

Network Marketing is a business of sales and if your looking to sell massive amounts of your companies products or services, you’re going to need a sales process, which should look something like this: network marketing

A. Build rapport with your prospective customers.

B. Ask penetrating questions to find out what their need is.

C. Listen very carefully. The less you actually speak, the better.

D. After you’ve learned about their problems, tailor what you have to offer in such a way that solves their problems.

E. Get a commitment and close the deal.

The more you come off as being someone who is genuinely concerned about the other person without trying to push an agenda, the more you will find them closing themselves on the products or your opportunity. Again, this will only happen if you ask the right kinds of questions and allow them the freedom to share with you exactly what their needs are (i.e. hot buttons) and how you can sell them on it. Basically, there telling you how to close them! network marketing

#2) Recruiting

The leverage of this industry truly doesn’t begin to kick in until you begin building a team of people who are able to duplicate your efforts while at the same time the entire volume and profits of your organization. This is probably the most feared part of being in a network marketing company because most of the time we are under the impression that our “New Recruits” should consist of merely family and friends, who we think will dodge us at the next family get together. network marketing

However, recruiting can actually be the most exciting part of your network marketing business if you can manage to change your mindset when it comes to what recruiting/sponsoring actually is. Even though you have goals to meet in order to get that nice paycheck you’ve been dreaming of, recruiting shouldn’t be viewed as being nothing more that a pay day. It actuality you’re giving people an opportunity to change their live’s by opening the door to financial independence.
There are so many benefits to joining a network marketing company beyond making money.

Get Home-Based Internet Marketing Business its Celebrity Status through Effective Online Promotion

It feels good to be an ordinary employee as long as you are well-compensated and you receive privileges and benefits that are entitled to you. Good for you if you have alternate jobs after office hours or during weekends wherein you will be able to generate additional income to finance you and your family’s important expenditures.

However, there are instances wherein you come to think that the income you receive both from your regular and alternate work is still insufficient to compensate your expenditures given the fact that the prices of basic commodities and other necessities are consistently increasing. There is no chance that your salary will also increase every time the prices of basic commodities also increase. It is your responsibility to sustain the needs of your family.

During those instances, there are employees who are brave enough to face the risk of getting into business. Thus, they retire from their previous work, collect the necessary cash benefits due to them, and use this as their starting capital for their business venture. Most of them get into home-based business wherein they start selling several merchandises to their neighbors and later selling such items to the business district within their locality.

There are also employees who realized that establishing a home-based business is still incapable of sustaining the needs of their respective families. It still requires hundreds to thousands of dollars of capital and they need to work on a double effort so that they can sustain the needs of their home-based business. With regards to selling home-based products to the business district within their locality, they stressed that it needs additional capital and several employees who will handle the business outside your residence.

That is why these employees are getting involved into home-based Internet marketing business. They clear some space inside their house that will serve as their “business office” (they also makes use of their bedrooms as offices) and purchase a single personal computer unit that is connected on the Internet. What they typically do is to surf on the Internet, research for several Internet-based earning opportunities that does not require huge starting capital, and learning the strategies needed to succeed in this type of investment.

Home-based Internet marketing business is advantageous for individuals who start with minimal capital input. There are also various Internet-based marketing programs that do not require you to purchase products and sell it to interested individuals over the net. For instance, there is the affiliate marketing program where you need to have your own site registered in your own domain name as the “affiliate” for the program. What you have to do is to advertise the assigned merchant’s website to your own site and you will earn several dollars for every click that will be generated by the affiliate merchant site’s URL placed in your own website.

One of the secrets of skyrocketing revenues generated from home-based Internet marketing business is the promotion that you employ. You need to let the world know that you have a website where they can find interesting stufs and useful information and they need to click on different online advertisements placed into your site to access such useful information. The success of every Internet-based business is vital especially in terms of promoting it to the Internet community.

What are the effective promotions available for your home-based Internet marketing business? Take a sneak peek on the following and determine what kind of promotion is best suited for your business.

1.  Search engine.
This is one of the ways of getting your website popular to Internet users. Your site must appear on the top pages of every search engine results made by Internet users. Without your site on the top pages of search engine page results, it is hard for you to attract potential clients to visit your website.
2.  Online advertising. This is one of the best methods of getting your website popular to Internet users. All you have to do is contact online-based advertising companies and let them do the job of advertising your site for a corresponding fee. Of course, it is relatively cheaper compared on advertising your home-based business outside the Internet community.
3.  Article directories. If you are looking for some “free promotions”, then this is for you. You just need to write articles about the contents of your site and submit it to article directories. You will be required to include a brief description about yourself as the author and the URL of your website. This is one of the effective marketing strategies used in online-based businesses.

It feels good when you are earning without spending too much money and exerting too much effort. However, you need to determine the best promotion tool for your home-based Internet marketing business so that you will be able to achieve success despite of the risks involved.

Max Steingart's Recruiting Tip: "How To Use The 'Whole Pig'"

This conversation today is one of my favourites, and
 for two BIG reasons.

First, it illustrates the principle I always like to
tell people to make the most of, and that's to "use the
whole pig". By this, I mean, any aspect of your life
and circumstances is acceptable to use in your
network marketing. A lot of the stuffy types will tell
you to be "professional", without actually saying what
that means. But my take on it is anything I can do to
legally, ethically and morally get a prospect to say
"yes" when I GENUINELY believe it's in their best
interests IS professional. Remember - getting rapport
is the FIRST step to making the sale and inviting
people into your reality by sharing something of
yourself is a great way to do it.

The second thing I love about this conversation is it
thumbs a nose at all those people who make all sorts of
excuses why they "can't" make a success of their
businesses. This student of mine is BLIND and doing
very well, thank you very much.

If THAT doesn't inspire you, nothing will, Jake!

I've used "THEM" to preserve the privacy of the other
person involved, but it's a genuine conversation I had,
and, what's REALLY important is this so easily COULD be
YOU talking to as many "THEMs" as you wanted!

Probably the best way to get the MOST from this
powerful conversation is to print it out, grab a cup or
glass of your favorite beverage and go sit somewhere
quiet where you can follow along with the commentary
and reference the lines in the conversation.

I promise you, it'll really be worth that little bit of
extra trouble to go over it.

 45. You: It is real simple

 46. Them: Ok

 47. You: All you need is about one hour a day on the
 computer

 48. Them: That's doable

 49. You: And you already have the skills to do what
 I'm doing

 50. Them: I've been interested a long time, in home

and still do. But if you contact most of those
sites they confuse more than help. understand?

 51. You: I sure do. can we talk on the phone?

 52. Them: They wont tell you anything until you put
up the cash, which I understand because its
there source income. But I can't learn enough
about it from what they do tell. Hold on, gotta
 let the dog in

 53. You: If you know how to play baseball that's how
simple it is to do what I do. My # is

 I'll call. Thanks

 55. You: OK looking forward to hearing from you. My
 name is <> what's yours

 56. Them: <>. I'll talk to you in a bit

 57. You: OK. I will add you to my list

Commentary:

We begin with a simple hello on Line 1. And, short
though it is, the cheerful response is already a good
sign. People online are sometimes wary about being
contacted out of the blue (which is why I teach the
fool-proof "softly softly" approach the way I do). And
in Lines 3 and 4 we confirm this in an easygoing,
 nonthreatening way.

In Line 5 we take a safe approach and ask about their
screen name. I emphasize this time and time again
because it's SO important: people LOVE to talk about
themselves and immediately warm to you when you show an
 interest in them.

You can see instantly how in Line 6 he reciprocates and
immediately gets "into" the conversation with you by
asking where you're from. I know it looks "simple" and
too easy to be important, but it IS. I can't say this
 often enough.

In Line 9 you press home the rapport by asking about
their hobby, scuba diving. This is very smart. See,
although you can't see just from the conversation, you
have obviously figured out already the guy likes to
dive, and diving is one of those sports where the
people who do it are really "into" it. Here's a tip:
engage someone where their interests really lie, and
you'll have them eating out of your hands! And you can
see how well this works by the way he opens up in Line
 12.

And in Line 13 you drop the "whole pig" into the
conversation. But notice how you do it in a
light-hearted almost humorous way. See, you do have to
be careful because if you come on too strong with
something like this, it might seem like you're after
the "sympathy vote" and that's NOT good for ANYONE.

No, the real reasons are 1. it helps get that rapport
going even stronger; and 2, it ALSO subtly lays the
groundwork by hinting at how simple your opportunity
 is.

So in Lines 14 to 19 you're really strengthening the
communication bond and even playing down your
blindness, being somewhat dismissive if it, even.

And in Line 20, BINGO!

This is what you've been winding you for all along.
The glorious "what do you do?" question that allows you
to get into your business without being pushy or overt.
Hey, it was THEIR idea to start talking about it,
 right?

Truth is, in almost any conversation -- ESPECIALLY
between men -- the subject of "what do you do for a
living" will come up in the first 5 minutes. And
that's PERFECT for us -- all we have to do is make sure
WE'RE not the ones who DO bring it up! You CAN be the
first to mention it, of course, if the circumstances
permit, but it's easier and more powerful if you leave
it to them to be the first ones to raise the issue.

Between Lines 21 to 26 there's a little confusion --
and it's unavoidable because of having to change
cursors for writing and reading. Yet even here you turn
it to your advantage by calling it a "blessing". This
is a tremendously powerful positioning statement and
gets to work at many different levels of your
prospect's subconscious. The two main messages he gets
from this are first you're no fool (which is important
for him to know in the context of listening to your
advice later on!), and also your opportunity is
implicitly extremely profitable if it means your
blindness is now a blessing (because the implication is
if you were NOT blind you'd be doing a "normal" job and
so would have missed out on this opportunity).

In Line 27 you begin to talk about what you do -- but
ONLY in response to the direct question, of course!
Note how you do NOT immediately jump down his throat!
Not EVEN when he says, "Hey, send me a link to your
site! I've been looking for a little extra income".
Even though you'd be hard-pressed to find a more
positive indicator of interest than this, it's vital to
remain cool -- even seemingly "uninterested". That's
why in Line 29 you IGNORE the question and instead ask
 even more about THEM.

Line 30 is good AND a potential atomic bomb! First
 it's great he's telling you he's "still a student".
This means he's open minded, enjoys acquiring knowledge
and is keen to learn new things.

However, the mention of the Church could be bad news,
IF you don't handle it right. See -- and please, I'm
not making a value judgement here, because faith and
spirituality are very important in people's lives -- I
can imagine (and have seen with my own eyes!) times
when a seemingly innocuous remark about matters of
faith has ended up in fistfights and with people
writing each other out of their wills!

In this case, it's best not to get too much into
discussion about it. Here's another tip (and it's NOT
just about saving your bacon in Network Marketing:
avoid discussions about politics and religion like the
 plague!).

So you take the best and safest course and get the
conversation back on track (not only does this make
sense because of what I said above, but it's also the
whole point for HAVING the conversation in the first
 place).

Up to Line 39 there's just some general chit-chat.
Nothing wrong in this, of course, and even though
you've got a hot prospect here, it doesn't hurt at all
to show you're actually a human being and just "chew
the fat". HOWEVER, do NOT lose sight of the whole
purpose of the exercise -- to get YOU more business. So
it's good to return to the subject in Line 40, with a
"lucky" question from them. This is a perfect chance to
get it back on track in Line 41. No messing about here,
a direct question to bring them back to the topic of
 making some extra money.

In Lines 43 to 49 you qualify your opportunity. Just
one note of caution here: you CAN oversell the
benefits. In many cases, once the prospect is
interested and has asked you for info (implicitly here,
by asking for your website in Line

In Line 50, he re-conforms his interest, so you go for
the "close" of this "sale", which is to get him on the
 telephone.

In Line 52, you actually get an objection -- but as
I've said before, you should welcome them not fear
them. Objections are natural and they give you an
opportunity to reveal benefits your own business has to
 offer.

Line 53 is poetry. Metaphor is one of the most powerful
persuasive techniques we have at our disposal. In this
instance, we're reframing the future experience of his
participating in your opportunity in terms of something
with which he will already be familiar.

And so, we conclude with Lines 54 to 57 where we set
 the appointment.

So, in closing, I'd like to reiterate the two points I
made above, because they're SO important: first, use
everything you've got. Marketing -- especially Network
Marketing -- is about relationships, and the best
relationships we have are with the people we know
something about. So use the "whole pig".

And secondly, take this as a lesson. We've ALL got
"reasons" not to grasp the nettle and do these things.
Yet when we look around us and see people beating all
the odds, people with better excuses than we'll EVER
have to sit at home and play the victim, it should spur
 us into action!

Seize the day!

Max Steingart,
 The Master of Internet Prospecting

P.S. If you'd love you use these tips but find you
don't have enough people to talk to, that's what I
can help you with in EFL Boot Camp:

advice later on!), and also your opportunity is
implicitly extremely profitable if it means your
blindness is now a blessing (because the implication is
if you were NOT blind you'd be doing a "normal" job and
so would have missed out on this opportunity).
