Two Reasons Why Rookie Network Marketers Fail To Build A Business

Being involved in the network marketing industry for more than 4 years, I’ve been able to watch first-hand MANY newbies come into the industry.  And while I’ve watched many of these new people take off like a rocket ship breaking through rank after rank in a short period of time, I’ve also witnessed many fall flat on their face and fail miserably.  While there’s dozens of reasons why these new reps failed to achieve their goals, my goal in this article is to highlight TWO REASONS that stick out in my mind so that you can avoid them at all costs.

1.  Unrealistic Expectations Of Success - Isn’t it funny how most people say they’re not looking for a “Get-Rich-Quick-Scheme”, but when they’re not making a gazillion dollars after their first 30 days, they say things like, “This doesn’t work…” and quit?!?  Most new network marketers come into the industry thinking they’re going to be an overnight success.  They read stories and watch videos of people making great incomes and living great lifestyles and think they’re going to have the same thing in a few weeks.  This is the wrong mindset to have.  Building a network marketing business, or any real business for that matter, takes time.  There’s a learning curve and maturity process you have to go through.  Early in my career (back in 2005), my mentors used to always tell me, “Mj , this is a 3-5 year plan…”.  I’m so thankful I had mentors that taught me to have the right expectations.  If they hadn’t taught me that, I may have quit this industry in my first year when I was failing forward and getting my butt kicked.

Now you might say, “Well, in my company there’s a guy who joined and hit the top position in 2 months!  He’s an overnight success and I can be too!”  I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but 9 out of 10 times that happens, that “new” rep was probably already a network marketer with years of experience.  In addition, they most likely came in from another company and had an existing downline that they “rolled over”.  Unless that’s your situation, you can’t possibly expect to have the same thing happen to you.

2.  Sporadic Activity - Rookie marketers usually have the attitude that they’ll do whatever they can do, during their free time, to build their business.  That’s a totally unprofessional attitude to have.  Developing a working schedule is critical to success.  Even if you have only 10 hours a week to build your business, those 10 hours have to be planned out so you can be effective and have the best chance of succeeding.  With that said, your schedule also has to be non-negotiable.  You can’t “just decide” to do your laundry at the time you’ve allotted to build your business.  Would you “just decide” to do your laundry during your work hours if you had a job?  If you did that, you’d get fired.  Likewise, if you don’t stick to your schedule, failure is inevitable.  Remember, treat your business like a hobby and it’ll pay you like one.

Just because you’re building a network marketing business, that probably cost you only a few hundred dollars/peso to start, doesn’t excuse you from being a professional.  Take a second look at your mindset and your commitment to your schedule to make sure you’re not fooling yourself and organize yourself for success.

12 Biggest Mistakes in Recruiting or Sponsoring

Have ever admitted that we all mistakes when it comes to recruiting or I may sponsoring? Here are 12 biggest mistakes when it comes to sponsoring.

#1..Do not elevate the prospect above yourself. Don't edify them above you or your upline.  Don't worry about what they think. That will interfere with recruiting them.

#2..Do not try to convince your prospect.  You want to attract them to you and then your business.  You are looking for leaders, not needy people or warm bodies.

#3..Amateurs talk to much.  Don't say too much when you are talking to prospects.  Give them a small amount of information, then get them to your upline for a 3-way or to an corp call or webinar.

#4..Most new business builders tell prospects that this business is easy.  Don't, they will work. No networking business is "just add water" and your rich. Do not mislead your prospects.

#5..Don't make them feel too comfortable or they will not work. Challenge them.  Send them to a team/corp call.

#6..New business people don't use their upline like they should.  Your upline is a great asset to you. If your prospects have questions call your upline to answer them.  Then listen in on the conversation.

#7.. NEVER....NEVER....NEVER talk to your downline or team if you do not have a great, upbeat attitude.  If you are upset or need a boost in your attitude, go to your upline.  You can destroy your team if you go downline with a bad attitude.

#8.. Never tell without them asking.  In other words,  don't give your prospect information until they ask for it first.  Then get them to your website, upline, or corp call.

#9..Never edify your prospect.  Always edify your upline to your prospect.

#10.. When your on a 3-way with upline do not interrupt them while they are talking to your prospect.  That is a huge No No.

#11..Always look for leaders for your business.  You do not want to sponsor needy people.  You want people who are trainable and teachable.

#12..Your team will do what you do.  If you don't get on calls, your team will not get on calls.  If you don't go to trainings, your team will not go to trainings.  If you don't read, your team won't read.  You must lead by example.  Always.

F-O-R-M Your Prospects

Many times in our industry (MLM,Network Marketing,Business), new people ask,"What do I say to prospects? How do I start a conversation?"

A simple way to do that is use F O R M.  This is an acronym for: Family, Occupation, Recreation, and Message.  It is a simple way to remember how to open a conversation with a stranger.  You must have a smile on your face and a sparkle in your eye when you talk to people you don't know.  You have to show them with your body language and your facial expression that you are no threat to them.  You are friendly and open to making a new friend.  Don't mention your opportunity right now.  Just open a conversation and get to know a little about them. Always remember..when you are talking to a new prospect, the conversation is always about them, not you. Do not start telling them all about you.  If they ask a question about you, answer it with as little words as possible and get back to finding out about them.  Don't get side tracked with swapping stories.  Concentrate on finding out as much as you can about the person you are talking to.

One of your biggest assets is your ears.  You must be a good listener.  Everyone has ears to hear with, but it takes more to be a great listener.

The letter "F" stands for Family, theirs, not yours.  Ask them about their family. Are they married, do they have kids, are they in school, do they play sports?

The letter "O" stands for occupation, theirs, not yours.  Do not pitch your opportunity at this time. Ask questions about what they do for a living.  How long have they done that kind of work?  Do they enjoy it?

The letter "R" stands for recreation, theirs, not yours. Find out what they do for fun and relaxation.

The letter "M" stands for message. Find out if they are looking to make a change. Do they have dreams and goals that their occupation doesn't give them the opportunity of accomplish?  If so what are those dreams and goals.

Leave them with your card and try to get their phone number or email to contact them later. If they won't give you their contact info, ask them to call you and give you  their opinion of your website.

If you are talking to your prospect in person, make some notes as soon as you can about your conversation.  If you are on the phone, make notes as your are talking.  These notes will help you later on when you talk to them again. You will remember them better and they will be pleased that you remembered details about them.  Keep these notes organized so you can refer to them quickly when you need them.

If you are using scripts...practice...practice....practice....practice.  In front of a mirror.  Even though you are on the phone, you must smile so it comes through in your voice.  Put a mirror on your desk and watch yourself as you talk on the phone.  Keep your expression open and smiling.

Listen for key words from your prospect such as kids, husband, job.  These words can open doors to dreams and goals.  Tie those into a 3 way call with your upline or a sizzle call.

Do not use words like: "Would you be interested in...."  "Take a look at..." "I have an opportunity for you..." "Meetings"  "Presentation" "Products" "Selling" "In the business" "Levels of income or pay".

Instead use words like: "Conference call" "Webinar" "Information" "Service".

As with any new venture, the key is to practice.  The more you practice the more confident you will be. It will show in your posture and attitude.  People want to know you are a leader.  That you will still be there to help them a year from now.  They need to have confidence in you and they won't unless you have confidence first.

Every journey begins with a first step.  Take your first step and see how all the next steps lead to your goals realized and your dreams fulfilled.
